Leisure And Luxury In Cancun

Over the years my travel style and method for choosing a destination has varied depending on my finances, mood, or reason for traveling. Those things being considered, I never had the desire to visit Cancun. In my defense, the only reference I had of Cancun was “Spring Break”. That wasn’t my crowd and didn’t seem like a good time so whenever someone suggested it, I shied away. Please let the record reflect that I was wrong. Completely wrong.

Just 6 months prior, I traveled to Jamaica alone only to be stranded there during Hurricane Harvey. When I finally returned to Houston my nerves were shot. My stress levels were through the roof and I was a bit traumatized from the trip. After Jamaica, I had no clue when I would be ready to travel again nor what would be my reason for said travel. So when Courtney suggested a short trip to Cancun as a means to relax and recharge, I jumped at the chance. Thanks to Southwest and their amazing staff, I had flight vouchers from my Jamaica trip so I only paid $121.30 for my roundtrip flight! Next came time to choose a hotel. Since the mission of this trip was to truly recharge, I thought we should stay somewhere high-end and low-key. After a little research on my employers’ benefit site, I stumbled across the most amazing 5-star resort: Nizuc Resort and Spa. One look at the photos and Courtney agreed, we were on our way to one of the most luxurious getaways we had ever been on.

My part of the trip started a little rocky with me feeling sick and actually vomiting on the plane during my flight. But once we got to the resort, it was smooth sailing. Guys, this resort was GORGEOUS! The grounds were immaculately kept, the rooms were pristine and the staff was the most courteous I’d ever encountered. The resort features 6 restaurants, a spa, gift shop, gym, its own cigar lounge with hand-rolled cigars, private beaches and more. I’d never been on a trip where I had no desire to leave the hotel but there’s a first time for everything.

For three days and two nights, Courtney and I indulged in fine dining, relaxed on the beaches, dipped at the adult pool, and were treated like queens. Talk about ‘the life’. As if that weren’t enough, we even had our own butler. We did not leave the resort until it was time to return home. THAT’S how amazing this place was. Although we were the only Black people there, all of the other guests were nice and very welcoming to us. Everywhere we went people were striking up random conversations with us.

If you’ve been thinking about a lazy and luxurious vacation, this is your place. Note: the resort is NOT all-inclusive. The restaurants we had dinner at were priced like a typical American steakhouse. The casual restaurants were much more affordable. If you really want to “ball out” look into renting a penthouse or private villa. Although Courtney and I had a wonderful girls trip, this resort would be an absolutely amazing place to honeymoon or baecay. If there’s something you want to know that I didn’t include, leave your questions in the comments! I’d also love to know your favorite destination for a little R&R. Thanks for reading!
