Vacation Recovery

My lovely Cole Haan toiletry kit that I got from flying business class with American Airlines!

How many times have you come home from a trip and felt as if you never went on vacation to begin with? Times where the trip itself was amazing but all of the travel, airports, climate changes and time zones left you SPENT? If I’m being truthful, this happens to me often. I come home exhausted and want nothing to do with other humans or anything else for that matter. These are the times that I go into “vacation recovery”.

Vacation Recovery is when I practice self-care to recover from my trips. Most times I stay home for an extra couple of days but sometimes even the energy at home is off. You walk in your door and everything you left behind is right there waiting for you. When I feel this way, a staycation is in order. It doesn’t have to be overly luxurious or expensive. Just a place where I can decompress and shut the outside world out. When I returned from Paris, I chose a relaxing staycay at the Holiday Inn Houston – Westchase.

I booked this guest room for one night and enjoyed every minute of it. The location was the main factor in my decision making. It is close to the freeway yet very quiet. It is also located next to Cheddar’s restaurant which happens to be underrated when it comes to inexpensive but tasty food. I walked to the restaurant and ordered a rib platter, returned to my room, and ate myself into oblivion. The room was very comfortable. It was spacious and was equipped with a decent sized desk and a super clean bathroom! The bed cradled me like a newborn baby while I binge watched television until my heart was content. I slept exceptionally well and woke up the next morning feeling renewed.

I know that complete isolation upon returning from a trip isn’t feasible for everyone. What are some ways you practice self-care before you ease back into your regular routine after a trip? Leave your comments below and thank you for reading!
