Summertime Chi
/It’s no secret that Chicago is one of my favorite American cities. Since my last trip, I knew that I wanted to go back but had no clear idea of when. When I heard about “Black Yacht Weekend”, I thought that would be the perfect time for my return to Chicago. I’ll save you the suspense and tell you that those plans foiled but my ability to pivot made for an amazing trip anyway!
I booked this trip months prior to Black Yacht Weekend, yet all of the event tickets sold out well before I could grab any. Was I a bit sad? Yes. Did I let that ruin my plans? No. Instead, I planned to have an amazing time solo but ended up spending part of the trip with a man that I recently started dating. It was our first date and we had the best time. That said, here’s my itinerary for Summertime Chi:
Thursday, June 19th (Juneteenth) - I spent this day with the person I’m dating. We did a ton of things. I vlogged a bit but didn’t take many pics this day.
The infamous “Bean”
Brunch at The Gage. We kept it light but the food was DELICIOUS!
Alice & Wonder for Chicago hat customization.
Chicago River Boat Architecture Tour - I did this a couple of years ago but it was his first time. I’m happy I went again because the views never get old.
Happy hour drinks at Toro
Dinner at Noble Thai
Theory Sports Lounge and Restaurant to watch Game 5 of the NBA Finals
Howl at the Moon for some live music
LondonHouse Rooftop Bar for a nightcap
Friday, June 20th - I did absolutely NOTHING. I was exhausted from the day prior and decided to stay in. I ordered food from the hotel restaurant, Toro, and watched tv when I wasn’t sleeping.
Saturday, June 21th - This day was dedicated to art and wanderlust. My first stop was the Field Museum for their African Fashion (ended June29th) and Africa (permanent) exhibits. If you didn’t by now - I love fashion, art and the intersection between the two. Below are some pics but there will be a full post dedicated to the exhibits up soon. Afterwards, I wandered around the pier and enjoyed some quiet time by the water. I ended the day by having dinner at Toro.
Sunday, June 22nd - This was my last day in Chicago but I had a late flight. I had brunch at Toro before leaving my bags with the hotel to hang out at the park and riverwalk. It was hot outside and I was tired. I didn’t have the energy to squeeze in more sites or “things”. I spent the day outside zoning out to music and then I had dinner at Gordo’s Tiny Taco Bar before grabbing my bags and heading to the airport.
For visuals of the hotel and other things, the Chicago vlog is also posted on my YouTube channel, here.
Thank you so much for stopping by. Ciao!
trip recap
Room: $1596.29 for 4 days, 4 nights at The Fairmont Chicago
Roundtrip Airfare: Spirit First Class $422.98
Tip: Book your hotel near most of the things you want to do. Millennium Park and Magnificent Mile are great areas. Wandering the city on foot during summer is so fun and a great way to explore. Be sure to check the weather, dress accordingly, and stay hydrated.
I would recommend doing everything I listed above except Noble Thai restaurant. I didn’t like the food there. Everything else was amazing.
