A Weekend in NYC + A Day Trip to Philly
/It’s no secret that New York City is one of my favorite cities. When I go there, it ignites something inside of me. Each time, my experience is different yet still amazing. At this point, I’ve been to NYC 5 times and the last time I visited was a couple of years ago. It rained the entire time I was there but I still had a blast. Here’s a recap of what I did!
After dropping my things at the Renaissance Harlem Hotel, my friend and I decided to head straight to brunch at the The RH Rooftop Restaurant in the meatpacking district. Let me start by saying that RH is STUNNING!!! The design gallery is six floors and the restaurant is, of course, on the top floor overlooking the city. The place was packed so if you decide to go, I would highly recommend making reservations.
Next, we headed to Olfactory NYC to create some custom perfumes! In my opinion, this is the perfect thing to do with anyone of has a love for fragrances. We both made two personalized fragrances each that we absolutely fell in love with. Since we had a hard time choosing just one, we opted to get both scents - one in a perfume and the other in a lotion. The process was fun and informative. The best part was doing it with a friend and getting to name my perfume (Rich Aunty)!
The next day, Sakita and I headed out for a day trip to Philly. We pre-planned this because we wanted to take the train and I’m happy we did. I love train rides and I had never been to Philadelphia so I could not thing of a better way to kill two birds with one stone. We took the Amtrak from Penn Station and had a DAY in ‘The City of Brotherly Love’. Our first stop was Ishkabibbles for cheesesteaks. None of what we heard about the place was wrong. It wasn’t fancy but the food was great!
After stuffing our faces with food, we decided to walk some it off by exploring the city on foot. We stopped by a piercing shop (not pictured) before deciding to take some tourist photos. I love these soooo much. The other tourists there were so kind to take our pics and they came out great!
Our last stop in Philly was spontaneous. I hadn’t been to the Museum of Illusions yet so we ordered tickets online and headed over. As an adult, I find whimsy and child-like fun to be important in balancing out life’s bullshit. This was so fun lol.
the only time you'll ever see me be the bigger person.
By the time we wrapped up at the museum, the weather went left. The temps dropped quickly and it began to rain. We stopped in some random restaurant to eat again before heading back to the train station. The next day was my last full day in NYC and the weather was TERRIBLE. This turned out to be the weekend that New York would flood. Before it got that point, we went to Brooklyn for The Book of HOV exhibit. As a huge Jay-Z fan, this was the primary purpose of my visit and I’m so glad I got to experience it before the close date. We also went to dinner at Lagos TSQ in Times Square. The food was okay but the ambiance was dark and loud so I got no footage.
This was one of my favorite trips to the city. I was able to squeeze so much into 3 days. One of the things I love about NYC is that no matter how many times you visit, there is always something new to do and explore. I would love for you to comment below your favorite thing about NYC.
